Close but not quite.

With the approach of the college basketball season around the corner, one has to remind folks that there’s a lot of football remaining, especially for a school with an unbeaten team.

When I read that next Saturday’s University of Louisville-Pittsburgh football game was going to be telecast at the KFC Yum! Center, the reaction was what a great idea. A statement about the growing popularity of football in a state dominated by basketball.

The Courier-Journal article only stated that it would be shown on the Jumbotron. The vision that popped into mind was an arena packed with UofL football fans. Surely not the small video board outside the entrance.

Wrong. A call to the U of L Ticket Office clarifies that the football game will only be shown on the plaza as part of opening homecoming events. That afternoon the UofL basketball team will conduct the first of three Red-White scrimmages in the Yum! Center at 4 p.m., preceded by a pep rally at 2:30.

We will be at the football game in Pittsburgh, still thinking about how great it would have been for both events to have been held in the arena.
