Not a pleasant place to be for assistant coaches Danny Manning, Nolan Smith and Josh Jamieson (Mike DeZarn photo).

Another unforgettable college basketball season for University of Louisville basketball. And for all the wrong reasons.

Familiar story Tuesday night at the KFC Yum! Center. Louisville falling behind early behind a barrage of three-point baskets, unable to mount any semblance of a defense. The Cardinals losing 80-64 to Virginia Tech, their sixth loss in a row for their 22nd defeat against only eight wins this season.

Coach Kenny Payne in his familiar stance on the sideline, waving those arms, walking back and forth, shouting instructions now and then, all of which are seemingly ignored.

Virginia Tech made eight 3-pointers in the first half and led by as much as 23 at one point. The Cardinals cut it to 10 multiple times in the second half but never came any closer.

Never any doubt about the outcome. Of the game or the season, with Louisville mired all alone in last place with a 3-16 Atlantic Coast Conference record.

Kenny needs to go but not before apologizing to UofL fans who are not holding their collective breath. They still have to endure two more games.
