Gotta be a touch proposition for a coach coming to Louisville from the University of Florida, admitting that Kentucky probably has the better football team

Pausing for a second at the podium during his Monday press conference, taking a sip of water, exhaling, Charlie Strong would say that the University of Louisville will have its hands full Saturday in Lexington.

“I don’t know if we can beat Kentucky right now,” he said. “I’m very frustrated with the game against FIU. We’re just not a good football team. We lost 25 people last season, and we’re in our second year of talking about rebuilding this program.”

Pretty much what he’s been saying all along, confirming what the analysts have concluded — that with the loss of 25 seniors from last season, U of L is once again facing an uphill battle. Hard to stomach, the sudden realization that this team may be further behind last year’s at the same point in the season.

“We have a long, long way to go,” said Strong.

The fact that he’s so concerned about Kentucky, with all its inadequacies, is an indication of just how much he believes his program needs to improve.

  1. Hmmm. If we actually win, Coach says this was just a ‘psych job,’ his saying that we can’t win the game this year. If we get our lunch handed to us, Coach merely says, ‘I tried to tell you.’ However it ends, I hope our new guys, especially, get their helmets back out in the sunshine for the game. As I’ve said before–I don’t mind losing to a better team, if we did everything we could on the field. Let’s see the effort, guys!
