Twenty-seven consecutive starts for No. 27.

Coming to an end for Doug Beaumont.

If any one player epitomizes the desire of the University of Louisville football team to turn things around during the 2010 season, it has been Beaumont.

Emerging from high school as the best player in the state. Making 100 receptions for 1,115 yards during his sophomore and junior years. Somehow going three seasons without a touchdown under the previous coaching regime.

Positioned to excel under Charlie Strong his senior year. The most consistent receiver. No special team complete without him, on offense or defense. Making 16 catches for 144 yards in his first three games. Finally getting that first touchdown. Ready to break out.

Happy ending cut short, at least for now.

The hometown favorite will not be in the lineup Saturday against Arkansas State, having incurred an injury in the Oregon State game. Requiring surgery. Anybody’s guess as to how long it will take Beaumont to recover.

Doug Beaumont won’t be in the game but don’t be surprised if No. 27 is on the field Saturday.

One thought on “Beaumont won’t be in lineup but his No. 27 not going away”
  1. Through their first three games, Arkansas State was surrendering an average of 507 total yards to opponents. 828 of those on the ground. Not sure what the Troy numbers were…but Arky lost. so they couldn’t have been great.

We’ll miss Beaumont, no doubt. Don’t think we need him for this one, though.
