Saturdays are huge for alcoholic beverage sales during football seasons in Morgantown. Witness the rowdy tailgating atmosphere.

The West Virginia University board of governors may want in on the action, and is considering allowing beer sales during athletic events, reports the Charleston Daily Journal. Athletic director Oliver Luck has said beer sales could generate $500,000 to $1.2 million a season. In the next breath, however, he says the primary motivation is to gain control over the drinking that already occurs.

Even if the board turns down the idea, Luck will probably end the long-standing policy of allowing fans to leave and re-enter the stadium during games. For decades, many fans have been taken advantage of the policy, engaging in binge drinking, then returning to the stadium drunk and crazy.[/stextbox]

  1. Well, WVU is just learning from us. I recall many comments on their sites about beer sales at Papa John’s, etc.

  2. Beer in Milan Puskar Stadium? Just what the most obnoxious football fan base in college football needs…

Not allowing the fans to check out at halftime and come back, great idea! Putting 16 oz. increments of readily accessible liquid encouragement in their hands?

I guess it’s all about the money. I can see white lightnin’ and moonshine booths next…Yee Haw!
