Seems to be a lot of confusion regarding what’s actually happening on Fan Day at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on Sunday.
What we’ve been able to surmise is that there won’t be a full scale scrimmage, despite what has been repeated from many sources. The University of Louisville football team held a scrimmage Saturday. No way Charlie Strong is putting his troops through that two days in a row.
Strong doesn’t dare go public just yet with any new wrinkles in the offense or defense. Too many people pulling for other teams in this area. He doesn’t allow anyone, including the media, near the field during his daily practice sessions.
The coach is justifiably cautious (almost paranoid) about what he reveals about this team. Just too much pressure to do otherwise. Fans should expect a scaled down tightly controlled practice session. The first and second units may line up against each other but and play calling will be pure vanilla.
Importantly, don’t wait until 2:45 or whatever the announced time for the start of practice. It always seems to start at least 30 minutes earlier. Can’t keep the guys off the field.
Card Game broke the news on Twitter Friday that there will be beer sales and other concessions available. That should keep a lot of fans happy.
Autographs or no autographs, scrimmage or no scrimmage, it’s all good.
