If your name is Brianna Jones, you are apparently predestined to play basketball.
A Google search turned up seven different players by the name of Brianna Jones, playing the game across the country. Three of them in college, the others in high school. That doesn’t even include the Briana with the customized spelling. 
There’s a Brianna at Toledo, another at Miles College in Alabama, the one at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. And those high schoolers in South Carolina, Alabama and North Carolina. A more extensive search may have yielded even more, possibly making their way up through the junior high ranks.
But then, there’s the Brianna Jones who caught Jeff Walz’ eye, the one will be entering her senior season at North Babylon High School in New York. The Brianna Jones who this week committed to the University of Louisville women’s basketball team in the 2015 class.
The one ESPN.com describes as “Deceptively athletic, strong off-guard manufactures, elevates in mid-range game; physical off the bounce, creates spacing off jumper; court awareness, passes with purpose; scorer’s mentality with consistency off the bounce.”
ESPN rates her as a five-star player, ranked 14th overall and the top guard in the 2015 recruiting class. She averaged 17.1 points and 10.3 rebounds for North Babylon as a junior.
UofL Coach Jeff Walz can’t comment on recruits until they actually sign but this recruiting challenge may have required more than a few detours along the way. He obviously found the Brianna Jones he wanted.
