Good news waiting for Rick Pitino as he wakes up in the Bahamas.

The University of Louisville Athletic Association has approved terms of his contract which extends through 2017 — $3 million annually through the 2012-13 season and rising to $3.9 million the last four years of the contract.

The deal also includes incentives for Big East Conference and NCAA Tournament performances up to $375,000 and another possible $200,000 for academic achievement.

Now go get that ring.

  1. He may be wearing that ring for a loooong time. The CJ right now says: Pitino’s base salary will remain at $3 million annually through the 2102-13 season, then rise to $3.9 million for the final four seasons of the contract. Now that is a long-term commitment! Go Cards!
