A couple of seasons ago, Andre McGee was having respiratory problems. Those are the kinds of physical challenges that tend to hang around. One can’t go lift weights, run sprints, take medicine or let time go by to let them go away. The only option is to endure, tough it out.

McGee has never shown the slightest indication of allowing anything slow him down, driven by his personal goal of “playing my heart out and trying to win a championship.” He loves playing the helter-skelter defense that drives his assignees out of their skulls.

Someone once told him the longer you play, the harder you have to work. He has taken the advice to heart, making the most of every second on the court. The California native says he chose to play at the University of Louisville because “Louisville is the best college sports town in the country, hands down, and Coach Pitino is the best coach in college. I would have been dumb to go anywhere else.”

  1. Love the guy – so glad he came to Louisville. He will be missed, no doubt but I believe he will come back to Louisville someday. They usually do….Thanks for the memories, Andre.

  2. Andre McGee is going to be tough to replace, a totally unselfish player with extraordinary defensive skills. Going to have to develop another mix of chemistry next season, probably take several games. Let’s do it now while we have it, take it to them.

  3. Weds.is the last home game. As far as the kinetic Mr. McGee goes, all I can tell you is that he is a delightful young man to be around or to have a conversation with. We see him often, usually with T-Will at Lady Cards games. He’ll take the time to talk with anyone, sign items and display the personality that will surely land him in the world of broadcasting or media after his days of playing basketball are finished.

Freedom Hall will miss the shrill cry of Sean Moth’s
“Threeeeeeee McGeeeeeeee!!” but one would think this young man has a higher purpose ahead of him in this world and will go down as one of the most beloved Cardinals of all time.
