Luke-Hancock-flagbearerLuke Hancock of the University of Louisville has been chosen from among 280 athletes to carry the U.S. flag at the opening of the World University Games in Russia.

Opening ceremonies are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with Team USA playing its first game on Sunday against the United Arab Emirates.

As that game gets going, there will be a big Louisville flag hanging outside the family’s home in Roanoke, Va. Right next to it will be an American flag, placed there when Van Hancock was informed her son made the U.S. team.

Sunday, July 7 @ 6:30PM – USA v United Arab Emirates
ESPNU – July 7 @ 7PM ET / July 8 @ 3AM ET / July 9 @ 5AM ET

Monday, July 8 @ 1PM – USA v Czech Republic
ESPNU – July 8 @ 5AM ET / July 8 @ 7PM ET / July 9 @ 3 AM ET

Wednesday, July 10 @ 9PM – USA v Sweden
ESPNU – July 10 @ 7PM ET / July 11 @ 7AM ET

Thursday, July 11 @ 6:30PM – USA v Australia
ESPNU – July 11 @ 7PM ET / July 13 @ 5:30AM ET

Friday, July 12 @ 1PM – USA v Canada
ESPNU – July 12 @ 5AM ET / July 12 @ 7PM ET / July 13 @ 3:30AM ET

    1. Tom, I added the schedule for the games to the article. Most of the games will be on ESPNU. Hopefully the opening ceremonies will on there as well.
