Mid-day under a blazing sun, there he sat in his seat in Section 212, Row Q, Seat 115. All alone. Taking in all the improvements at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

James Kiggins was driving by the stadium. Just couldn’t resist dropping in for a few minutes, walking around the complex even navigating the steep steps to the Norton Terrace. “The long wait is almost over,” he said, catching his breath. “I wanted to see it for myself. The changes are spectacular.”

Kiggins, a 48-year-old account rep for Sysco, said he has been a U of L all his life. Converted his wife, Meshelle, from Memphis shortly after they married 21 years ago.

There is, however, some divided loyalty within the household. His oldest daughter, Jasmin, is a senior at the University of Kentucky. Jillisa, the other daughter, is a member of the University of Louisville Band, playing the piccolo on game days.

Kiggins agreed that it has been a long hot summer and a while since he has been this excited about U of L football. “It has been so long. Last season was very hard,” he said. “I’m ready for some football.”

No argument here, James.

  1. I myself have been a fan since berth (30 years)ha…It almost has the same feel as when howard came here I can’t wait for the season to start on the 4th and yes it is a beautiful establishment….

  2. Moved my sons into the dorm Wednesday and did same thing. It’s beautiful ain’t it…..

  3. I’ve done that a few times and I can identify with James. Something very special about this football stadium.

  4. You’re a man after my own heart, James….sitting there imagining the teams on the field…visulizing long passes for Cardinal touchdowns, sacks by our defense, super runbacks of punts…hang in there, my friend, Charlie’s Cards may have a few surprises in store for us…and the best is yet to be.
