Cardinal Bird goes in for a layup.
Cardinal Bird makes a layup in a game involving local mascots.

The Cardinal Bird has been selected as the fourth most beloved mascot in the NCAA’s Sweet 16 in the annual competition conducted by Petside.com. No criteria is given for the selections by the site, but a top four ranking is pretty darned impressive on a site that largely caters to finicky dog lovers.

Canine mascots won three of the top five spots, with a live Huskey from the University of Washington’s snatching top honors.  The Villanova Wildcats were second, followed by the Gonzaga Bulldog, third, and the Cardinal Bird, respectively. The Cardinal Bird, by the way, has his own web page on My Space. Check it out here.

Resting on one’s laurels when Rick Pitino is around is not kosher.
