Among the students waiting in line when the Registrar’s office opens Monday at the University of Louisville is Brandon Golson, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from South Carolina.
The incoming freshman will be playing football for Charlie Strong next season and, yes, there is a Miami connection. He had narrowed his choices down to Louisville and Miami. But like most of the UofL-Miami matchups lately, Louisville came out on top.
Described as “an agile and amazingly fast pass rusher” by the Orangeburg Times &Â Democrat, Golson had 113 tackles, 30 sacks and four forced fumbles during two seasons at Calhoun County.
On the snap of the ball, Golson explodes into a fast-twitch fiber fit that, more times than not, puts him right on top of the quarterback as he gets about midway back in his drop. Handoffs; Golson comes close to taking them for himself.
Golson played in six games as a junior before being injured in an automobile accident. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 15 outside linebacker  by ESPN.com coming out of high school.
Golson was committed and going to South Carolina (SEC school) but wasn’t admitted for academic reasons. Glad he landed with a quality coach like Charlie Strong. Hopefully he’ll get his academics in place to play for you all.

Charlie Strong is a LEADER. I have never witnessed a Cardinal footbal team with the 2010 combination of effort, work ethic, composure, and focus. Even in losses, I saw good sportsmanship and committed focus until the final gun. In the immortal words of “The Pipe”, “We have reached a new plateau”. Charlie Strong is a leader unlike any we have seen with Louisville Football since Coach Schnellenburger left.
I only hope Tom Jurich has his eyes on the prize. Other schools WILL want him, and have probably already made overtures. LOCK HIM UP. TOM! He’s a leader of men. Since Rick Pitino has tripped over his ego, we could use some leadership around here!
Some coaches can recruit. Some can coach. Some like SK can do neither. Some like CS can do both. I love this guy!

You want to do something special? Winning another national championship for *X* School isn’t going to give you the same legendary status that winning a National Championship at Louisville will. I’ve seen how they celebrate even the bench warmers from their basketball National Championship teams, and knows each player by name. Louisville is what Miami was in 1984.
now thats obviously compiled from several interviews with verbal candidates as well as some stuff that I observed during some of the basketball games when CS was present. Makes a lot of sense though, why would you go to an SEC team or the U, just being another stat, if you can become a legend?
