One of the interesting parts of road trips to football games, at least for this observer, is experiencing the academic environment adjacent to on-campus stadiums. In the near future, University of Louisville fans at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium will have a close up view of a growing portion of Belknap Campus.
Preliminary work has begun on the 39-acre Belknap Engineering and Applied Sciences Research Park, which will be located between PJCS and the Speed School. The first phase, estimated at $31.9 million, has begun and will include roads with two overpasses, water and sewer lines.
The park will eventually include research facilities for Speed, offices for applied sciences researchers and offices for private companies that want to build partnerships with the engineering school, enabling students to work alongside experts from industry. Here’s a WDRB video with more info:
You know I was thinking the same thing…how’d they move the Red Barn over there. I know Speed School grads are GOOD, but still I went DAMN, what a feat of engineering. It is so amazing how similar in architecture the two structures were/are.
As a Speed grad, I’m looking forward to how all this will be developed. I noticed they kept the old drop forge building. Think this will this become the Red Barn South!?!
That’s what I thought when I looked at it, wondering how the Red Barn got over there.
With all this research/academic progress one would think we’re trying to get into the ACC or something…
