Dan-McDonnellDan McDonnell shared some surprising thoughts on winning and losing during recognition ceremonies for stadium expansion contributors Saturday prior to the University of Louisville-Alabama baseball game.

“Everything is what it is at this university because people have stepped up,” he said. “They had the vision, the dream, the goals. They want something to be proud of. It’s a real great opportunity for myself and our players to make you proud.

“When we win, there’s a lot of joy. When we lose, there’s a lot of pain and suffering. As baseball fans, that’s a good thing. When fans are crushed, upset or disappointed with the outcome or the way we play, that’s very healthy.

“We look for that because we want people invested in our program.

“I can promise you that the journey these kids are on is one that I want them to remember for the rest of their lives. The goal, or destination, is Omaha and the College World Series …”

Pretty good trip thus far, UofL defeating Alabama 8-7 in 10 innings Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.
