Kylee Shook shows why she is going to be fun to watch for the next four seasons while posting 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Evansville (Cindy Rice Shelton photo).

Lots of playing time for freshman Kylee Shook in the University of Louisville’s 89-47 win over Evansville in a women’s basketball game Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center.

Shook, a 6-foot-4 forward from Colorado Springs, Colo., had a coming out performance of sorts, making the most of 17 minutes on the court. She plays under control, well within Jeff Walz’ team approach, and  inspires the confidence of UofL fans.

The likeable Shook lets the game come to her, and she’s ready for the ball, whether she needs to pass, rebound or shoot. A model citizen in the women’s basketball world.  She would make eight of 10 field goal attempts, including two of two 3-pointers, for a career high of 18 points. She would also commandeer 10 rebounds, block four shots and make two steals.

“Coach (has been working with me in practice, so I was just trying to put what he is teaching me into the game,” said Shook. “My teammates, like Mariya Moore, are really good passers, and she just gives open looks for everybody. It was just an all-around good game for everybody. We just have to work on a few things.”

UofL travels to Vanderbilt on Wednesday. Expect to see Kylee Shook’s role continuing to become more prominent. Kylee gets it, knows what she’s doing, and she has the talent to get her there.
