A run-scoring sixth-inning single to left centerfield by second baseball Ryan Ratajczak was the decisive blow in the University of Louisville baseball team’s 7-6 win over Michigan State Sunday at St. Petersburg. Chad Green was credited with the win, Derek Self a save.

A day earlier, righthander Jeff Thompson had eight strikeouts in six innings, allowing three hits and three runs, in a 4-3 decision over Illinois. Centerfield Adam Engel had three hits, two stolen bases, and batted in a run. Matt Koch was credited with a save.

Friday morning Louisville was behind Minnesota 7-3 Friday with the bases loaded in the ninth with Stewart Ijames coming to bat. But then came the rain and more rain. They were scheduled to finish the game at 6 p.m. but weather conditions were still bad. Efforts to determine when the game could be completed weren’t successful. So the game was declared officially over after eight innings and the official score was 7-1.

U of L ace Justin Amlung was tagged with the loss.

  1. I’m hearing the Minnesota baseball coach wouldn’t answer his cell phone. I wouldn’t either if Stewart Ijames was coming to bat with the bases loaded.
