Opening day is here for the University of Louisville’s 2016 football season.

And no surprise, it’s a sellout. All 55,000 seats are accounted for at the UofL ticket office. Who could have ever imagined the possibility of ticket scalpers for a game against UNC Charlotte?

Confirmation, indeed, that it has been a long, hard summer for UofL fans, forced into a defensive mode for several months with the attacks on the administration and the basketball program. Needing something positive, any opportunity to reaffirm their love affair with UofL.

Bobby Petrino and company to the rescue, with a team loaded with a possible super star at quarterback, surrounded by players with talent, experience and depth at nearly every position. Ready to get the season under way, with the possibility of a breakaway on every offensive play.

UofL coaches, fans and players with a giant chip on their collective shoulder ready to unload, ready to hit somebody, ready to rid themselves of their pent-up emotions.

One more week or so of waiting and there would have been a clear and present danger of implosion.  Ready for some football?

Are you kidding?
