The University of Louisville baseball team will catch a break with temperatures in the mid-thirties Friday as practice begins at Jim Patterson Stadium for the 2011 season.

Dan McDonnell’s team is picked to finish 20th nationally in the Baseball News pre-season poll with UConn and St. John’s at 16th and 26th, respectively. Guess which team is picked No. 1? That would be TCU, which will join the Big East in 2012.

The baseball season will get under way Feb. 18 with Louisville opening against Michigan in the Big East/Big Ten Challenge in Clearwater, Fla., following with games that weekend against Ohio State and Minnesota.

  1. Can’t wait to see TCU play baseball in the Big East in 2012. Big East could possibly host a number of regionals and super regionals in the near future.
