The Louisville women held the Cincinnati basketball team  scoreless for almost seven minutes in the Queen City Wednesday, racing to a 13-0 lead en route to a 78-40 win in the Big East Conference opener for both teams.

Monique Reid and Becky Burke captured scoring honors with 13 points apiece, taking full advantage of Shoni Schimmel’s eight assists and three steals. Tia Gibbs had 11 points, Sheronne Vails and Schimmel added 10.

The Lady Cards are 8-3 now, heading for the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas this weekend for games against Marist, Houston and Nebraska.

  1. The game was a pleasant surprise for Coach Walz, who figured the Bearcat style of play… which involves using the entire shot clock on each offensive possession…would give the Lady Cards trouble. The Cards responded with a vicious trapping press that took UC out of their normal style

Louisville held UC to their lowest point total of the year and put up the most points that anyone has on the Bearcats so far this season with the win. It won’t get any easier than this for the Cards…they face five NCAA Tournament participants from last year in their next seven games.
