Normally, there’s not much excitement after a road win against an opponent that hasn’t won a Big East game. However, the University of Louisville womens’ basketball team can take pride in a 16-point win Sunday over Villanova in Philadelphia.

  • Ended a three-game losing streak on the road against Big East opponents. Louisville had lost to Syracuse, Notre Dame and Connecticut while defeating only Cincinnati in conference road games .
  • Jeff Walz may have have found an answer to ths defensive and rebounding woes by starting Asia Taylor at power forward, moving Tia Gibbs to the “2” guard and Monique Reid to the wing.Taylor collected eight points while turning in a solid defensive effort.

The Lady Cards will need all the help they can get in the paint when West Virginia comes to to town Sunday. The Mountaineers play the same “rough you up, kill you in the paint, send ya to the floor” style of ball that WVU Coach Mike Carey has implemented over the past quarter of a century.

Currently 6-4 in the Big East, Louisville has six conference games to go before tournament play.
