Jude Schimmel, the younger sister of Shoni, has all but mailed her letter of intent to play for the University of Louisville women’s basketball team. She tells Oregon Live in the accompanying video:

Jude Schimmel

“I’m pretty sure I’m going to Louisville with my sister. I really like the coaches there and it’s a plus that my sister is there and I think it’s the best decision for me.”

On the family connection with Shoni at Louisville: “It’s just a plus. The coaches were really nice and the girls were really nice when I got to meet them. “

She’s five inches shorter than Shoni but with all the Schimmel family talent and personality that will only enhance the appeal of the Lady Cards to their followers (Hat tip Cardinal Couple for the find):

  1. Walz may need to hire a traffic cop to keep things running smoothly in the Cards backcourt. He has more guards than Karen Sypher has alibis. Jude Schimmel is something special, though. Don’t let the size fool you. If you’ve watched Sugar Rodgers (Georgetown) play, you’ll get an idea of what to expect from Jude Schimmel.

    1. A nice challenge to have, David, wouldn’t you agree? At the same time, the front court becomes stronger with the addition of Sara Hammond and Cierra Robertson-Warren.

  2. i gotta get some tickets to the lady cards games this year i just went to the men’s last year but i keep up wit the lady’s but this year i think they can make a final four run or even possibly win it all cause they have a great recruiting class coming in and their returning key players from last year’s team it’s looking to be a great year for the cards in all sports upcoming next season

  3. You guys are in for a treat to have them both. As I stated in Cardinal Couple’s site, I’ve always liked Judes game a bit more than Shoni’s 😉 See them missile like passes from Jude? She is all speed!

  4. I’m so happy for Jude. I don’t think she’s 5 inches shorter than Shoni though. I’m 5’8″ and she’s only about an inch-inch 1/2 shorter than me. This video is all of the best players in Oregon and Washington but she still has her way out there. Jude Schimmel is the most underrated recruit in the country. How does a girls basketball player score 51 points in a high school game and not even be rated? (Shoni’s high at Franklin was 49)

    1. Thanks for the insight, OregonNative. Judging from the highlight video, she is one smooth operator, who can shoot bullseyes from anywhere, drive to the net and dish with accuracy and speed. What a pleasant, below-radar surprise.

  5. “Schimmel squared” is going to be a treat for Lady Cards hoops fans. Get your season tickets while there are still floor level seats left…
