Christine KrellwitzChristine Krellwitz, an assistant track coach for the past three seasons, was introduced by Tom Jurich as Senior Associate Athletic Director by University of Louisville Athletic Director during a Cardinal Caravan event Tuesday in Louisville.

Jurich said Krellwitz is a replacement for Julie Hermann, who recently left UofL to accept the Athletic Director post at Rutgers University. Actually Hermann’s former duties are being split between a number of individuals.

Krellwitz will oversee women’s basketball, women’s volleyball and six track and field teams. Mark Jurich has oversight over baseball, softball and golf. Christine Simatacolos will be responsible for swimming, diving and student life, and John Cairns will oversee tennis.

Krellwitz, who graduated from UofL in 2008 with degree in business marketing, competed in track from 2004-08 in events such as the heptathlon, high jump and hammer throw. A native of Big Rapids, Mich., she was a team captain during her last two seasons  and a member of the 2008 Big East Women’s Outdoor Track and Field championship team.

Herrman, who supervised 20 of 23 sports, apparently left some big shoes to fill.
