Construction of a new entrance to the north end of Belknap Campus is under way on Cardinal Boulevard, kicking up dust and diverting traffic for now.

But it’s going to transform an area that needed to be transformed, bringing the area up to the university’s quality standards.

The project will include decorative walls, landscaping and a water feature. Pavers in the street will form a large Cardinal logo, and bicycle lanes will be installed on each side.

The project is scheduled for completion by mid-August. It is being funded through a federal grant.

  1. Sounds like a nice concept and will be very complementary to the main campus entrance off 3rd Street and the NE corner of 3rd and Eastern Parkway. I was all for it until your last line, “…funded through a federal grant.” I know, we should be happy it’s money coming here rather than Lexington. But, why do we need the federal government spending our tax dollars on such nice-to-have-but-not-necessary programs!?! Isn’t this kind of thing more appropriate for our own soon-to-be $1 Billion endowment to cover, assuming we deem it a priority project? Or, just put the concept drawings in the alumni magazine and invite donors. I’d support it!
