[stextbox id=”alert”]Southern Mississippi officials have corrected an Associated Press report that reserve punter Peter Wilkes was killed in a gun accident Thursday evening in Union City, Tenn. He was on fall break and not traveling with the team this week.
Southern Miss spokesman Jack Duggan said in a statement Friday afternoon that Wilkes suffered an “irrecoverable injury.”
