The University of Louisville softball team finished Big East conference play in third place and swept the series in Connecticut against the Huskies this weekend, winning the three games by a combined score of 22-4.

Sandy Pearsall’s team will host the Big East tournament at Dan Ulmer Stadium, beginning Thursday. Louisville (38-16, 16-6) plays at 6:30 p.m. against sixth seed Pittsburgh.

All-American catcher Melissa Roth leads a hot hitting Cardinal nine that has shown a propensity for scoring early and often against the opposition. The slugging lineup also features Chelsea Bemis who recently was honored with the national player of the week award and deep ball threats Jordan Trimble and Vanessa James.

Kristen Wadwell and Tori Collins give the Cards two solid options on the mound. Senior Wadwell has a 17-10 record this year, and sophomore Collins, pressed into the starting rotation after a season ending injury to Chelsea Leonard, has responded with a 17-4 showing for the Cards.
