With Churchill Downs is less than a quarter mile from the University of Louisville campus, the Kentucky Derby demands our attention the first week in May.

Psst, c’mere! Got a “wise guy” pick for ya.

Consider, if you will, Nehro, the second place finisher in the Arkansas Derby. He finished a fast closing, flying neck behind ArchArchArch, the 25-1 winner. Arch appeared to be out of gas and with two or three more step, Nehro is the winner.

Nehro going to love the extra one-eighth of a mile in the Derby, and the long Churchill Downs
stretch. Without any bad luck, we think he’ll gobble the front runners up and get the
blanket of roses in the winner’s circle.

Gotta love the fine print. Nehro is out of Mineshaft, one of the most successful sires over the last three years. He’s owned by Zayat Stables, an outfit that races all over the world. Trainer Steve Asmussen trains is considered one of the top three in the business. Jockey Corey Nakatani gets the ride, as of now, and the veteran jockey is known for his patience.

We think you’ll get 10-1 or better odds on Nehro. We’ll accept that.
