Such a minor matter, but so annoying.

Wayne Perkey

Sorry, Wayne Perkey, but the Gimme a C, A, R, D, S cheer before football games is not working. In fact, it comes off more lame than when cheerleaders were doing it.

The former WHAS morning guy still has a good voice, but he isn’t accomplishing anything. The segment is too contrived. Much too slow. With little support from fans.

Wayne”s a great guy, as nice as you’ll ever meet, but visiting fans have to be embarrassed for the University of Louisville.

The sad thing is, it’s not Wayne’s fault. He epitomizes professionalism. However, this is not the Fifties or the Sixties when that kind of cheer was in vogue.

Drop it. The sooner the better.

  1. I think the whole idea of the C A R D S cheer is antiquated. Need something else before the game. Why not go to the taped 30 second video that used to be so popular before UofL basketball games? Belushi in Animal House was always a favorite. Or we’ve got a marketing department at UofL. Maybe they could come up with something, ya think?

Right now their only function seems to be trying to run blog owners off the Denny Crum Court during WBB practice. Or shilling John Deere tractor drawings.

    Yawn…

  2. We need Jim Hill, a former UofL cheerleader and current spirit group coach, to have the mike in his hand again. Numerous fans that I have spoken to have indicated that he has done the best job with the pregame cheer. He is already on the sidelines at each home game. All he needs is the mike and this will be fixed.
