After a couple of weeks of almost nothing but good things happening for University of Louisville athletics, hate to break it to you, but UofL has entered another one of those inevitable down cycles.

The football team going from the cusp of a BCS bowl to the Belk Bowl, soccer team from the verge of another Final Four to the off season, the UofL women’s basketball team climbing to No. 11 only to get drubbed by Kentucky, the women’s volleyball and field hockey teams ousted from their respective NCAA tournaments.

Unless this cycle lifts over in a couple of days, the next bad news may be related to Charlie Strong, with all the chatter getting stronger about his possibly having discussions with Texas A&M about a football coaching vacancy. Hopefully, Tom Jurich is prepared to dig into the coffers of America’s 16th most profitable athletic program, if necessary.

But the silence you hear is not all that comforting.
