Christmas shopping about done, incredible bargains out there. Nice to see the cash registers going backward for a change. Translates to deflation.

Finally able to focus on the challenges ahead, specifically the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl.

Any doubt Charlie Strong’s defense will be ready for a offensive-minded Southern Mississippi football team?

Unless history repeats itself and USM quarterback Austin Davis is another Ben Roethlisberger (remember Miami of Ohio?), Louisville should notch its first bowl win in four seasons.

Davis’ numbers are impressive — 259 completions, 2,898 yards and 18 touchdowns — including 38 completions in 57 attempts for 337 yards and a touchdown in its opener against South Carolina. Despite those numbers, Southern Miss still lost that game 41-13.

Five teams have scored more than 40 points against USM along the way to an 8-4 won-lost record, including a 56-50 loss to Tulsa in the season finale.

Absurd.

Charlie Strong is not going to be a part of anything that remotely resembles an offensive circus under his watch.
