Want to get the competitive pulses going again? Tune in the Louisville-Kentucky baseball game at 6:30 on Fox Sports TV (Insight – Channel 70) this evening. Better still, make the short trip to Lexington for the game at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

UK has been coming on in recent years and was expected to go a long way in the NCAA tournament last season. That didn’t happen. Instead, it was Louisville that turned the college baseball world on its ear, winning 47 games while advancing all the way to the Final Four and the College World Series in Omaha.

After losing seven position starters from its 2007 squad, Louisville has compiled a 16-12 record, including a 4-5 Big East mark. The Cardinals have relied on its slugging third baseman, Chris Dominguez (.387 avg., 8 HR, 26 RBI) and second baseman Justin McClanahan (.381 avg. 5 HR, 24 RBI). They are led by Justin Marks (2-1, 2.55 ERA) and Zach Pitts (4-3, 4.03 ERA) on the mound.

The Lexington team is 25-5 and ranked ninth nationally while U of L is 16-12. Probable starting pitchers are James Belanger for U of L with a 3-1 record and a 6.58 earned run average versus Clint Tilford for UK with a 2-0 record and a 1.20 ERA. UK is 20-1 at home this season.
