U of L survives drought in 51-46 win over Northern Iowa

Becoming increasingly obvious that offensive consistency is going to be continuing challenge for this University of Louisville basketball team.

Hence the return of the scoring droughts that plagued UofL before that magical Final Four run last season.

What’s ironic is that Russ Smith, the one known for his ups an downs, has become the most consistent threat to score. After the first four games, he’s the leading scorer with 20 points per game. Smith was the only UofL player for which Northern Iowa couldn’t find an answer in yielding a 51-46 win to the Cardinals in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis in The Bahamas.

On a terrible shooting night for his team, Russ managed to can six of 14 field goal attempts for 23 points to capture scoring honors.Russ somehow managed to pull in six rebounds and make five assists. But he was also helping to let Northern Iowa back in the game with six turnovers.

Not a good night for his teammate Peyton Siva who was making four other turnovers while getting only one assist. Good to see that three-pointer but he and Luke Hancock were two of 11 from behind the three-point line.

A lifesaver that tenacious defense that has yet to allow any opponent more than 54 points after the first four games.

We looked scared to shoot, every player on the team looked that way at the start. Only Russ seemed to work it off. Maybe it was the building, do we suffer from mass claustrophobia?

I think everyone is jumping way too fast on the OMG train!!! If you watched the game, it really showed where UofL went up by 18 points and got complacent. They thought they had it won, so they shutdown!! They will learn from this and trust me, Coach RP will give them a ear full.. Go CARD!!!

For what it is worth, I wondering why we weren’t resting players for Friday/Saturday when we went up 18.
