Good step hiring an alumnus.

Dr. Amy Acklin

Dr. Amy Acklin has yet to have been officially announced but she has been selected as the new director of the University of Louisville Marching Band. She succeeds Greg Byne.

Acklin, who holds B.M. and M.M. degrees from U of L and a Ph.D in music from Florida State University, has served as assistant director of bands and secondary instrumental music education since 2009.

She taught instrumental music in the California public schools for six years. During her tenure, her ensembles consistently received superior ratings at concert and marching festivals, including the Bands of America Western Regional Championship.

Let’s hope Dr. Acklin knows a lot about football as well. The marching band can be an integral part of the atmosphere at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

  1. This is an excellent selection! Saw her directing the band at the Spring Game..at least I think it was her..that blonde hair is hard to miss.

Let’s hope she can foster a good relationship with the Cardinal Pep Band and Al Greener. It is time for these two important entities to bury the hatchet and start working together on events again.

  2. I hope someone from the athletic department was involved in the selection. An excellent marching band is important to the program.

    1. While I agree and excellent marching band is important to the program,I highly doubt anyone in the athlethic department knows more about selecting a marching band director than a band person.
