    Steve:

I published an article on you yesterday from an e-mail I got from Bea at Volvo.

The article is over there, and here is the e-mail from Volvo:

    Hi Shannon,

Happy holidays – you’re probably looking forward to Louisville’s game against Kentucky this weekend! I’m working with Volvo, which is searching for the Biggest Fan of the Big East – a Louisville alum, Steve Springer, is vying for the title: http://www.bigeast.org/Sports/MensBasketball/myBIGEASTvolvo_profile06.aspx

I’m writing to share details on the campaign – would love to highlight Steve’s involvement and what Louisville can get ($10,000!) if he wins, so I hope you can share this with your readers.

Here’s the backgrounder: the campaign involves 16 social media influencers — each one representing a Big East school — who are vying for the title “Biggest Fan of The Big East.” The winner gets a trip to New York City for the Big East championships in March, a new Volvo S60, plus a $10,000 donation made in the winner’s name to their university from Volvo. We’ve got an introductory video on the Biggest Fan of The Big East program: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENLdq_PIkVg

Throughout the season, the 16 influencers go back to their alma mater with a college buddy and a new 2011 Volvo S60 for one weekend. They’ll relive their college days, attend a highly anticipated game, and share their entire experience on their blogs and social channels – Steve’s headed back to campus this weekend for the game against Kentucky.

Most of their content (links to blog posts, Facebook posts, and tweets) will be aggregated on http://www.mybigeastvolvo.com, and anyone can vote on who they think deserves the title of “Biggest Fan of the Big East.” Steve’s already been blogging on Volvo’s campaign/contest – below are links to some of his most recent posts:

    * Update on his involvement and standing as he vies to become the “Biggest Fan of The Big East”: http://uoflcardgame.com/update-biggest-fan-of-the-big-east/21570

I’ve included the press release below and there are also more details at http://www.mybigeastvolvo.com (including bios of the influencers) but if you need anything else (images, set up interviews, etc), don’t hesitate to let me know. If you’d rather not get these kinds of emails, no worries, just let me know too.

Hope to hear from you soon – thanks and enjoy the game this weekend!

    Cheers,
    Bea

VOLVO TO PRESENT “BIGGEST FAN OF THE BIG EAST” PROGRAM

Season-Long Social Media Program to Include 16 Schools and Conference Championship Tourney

The Big East Conference and Volvo Cars of North America have agreed to a sponsorship designating Volvo as “The Official Vehicle of the Big East Conference & Championships.” As part of the agreement, Volvo will sponsor a season-long promotion surrounding the 2010-2011 basketball season that will culminate with the selection of the ”Biggest Fan of the Big East” at this year’s conference championship tournament, March 8-12, at Madison Square Garden.

The unique sponsorship engages alumni that are “social media influencers” from each of the Big East’s 16 member institutions. A selected representative from each university recently attended Big East Basketball Media Day in New York City to officially launch the promotional campaign for his/her school. Following the event, each school representative will now responsible for providing daily posts on a custom micro-site – http://www.mybigeastvolvo.com – throughout the upcoming basketball season. All 16 alums will also win a weekend trip back to their alma mater where they will be provided an all-new Volvo S60 to drive around campus, take to basketball game and enjoy throughout their stay. Officials of the Big East and ISP Sports, the exclusive multimedia rights holder for the conference, will monitor all postings over a four-month period and then select one fan who will win an all-expense paid trip to New York for the Big East Championship Tournament.

“We are excited to have a world-class brand like Volvo on board as a major Big East corporate sponsor,” said Commissioner John Marinatto. “We think this unique new promotional campaign will provide Volvo with a creative, innovative and effective way to extend their brand to Big East fans across the country.”

“We believe this exciting partnership with the Big East is a perfect way to spotlight our all-new S60, which is a real game changer for Volvo, said Rick Bryant, Vice President, Northeast Region, Volvo Cars of North America.

“The all-new S60 features a 300-horsepower turbocharged engine, advanced safety features and a stunning design. We are excited to get all 16 alumni behind the wheel over the course of the campaign and experience all the ‘official vehicle of The BIG EAST’ has to offer.” As the official vehicle of the Big East Conference and Championship, Volvo will additionally receive substantial sponsorship exposure during the regular season and conference tournament. Prior to the tournament, Volvo will be a featured sponsor of Big East Game of the Week national radio broadcasts and on the official website of the conference (www.BIGEAST.org).At Madison Square Garden in March, Volvo’s presence will include exposure with tower banners outside the building, courtside signage, LED ribbon board and center-hung scoreboard promotions within the “world’s most famous arena.” Volvo will also be a featured sponsor of the national radio broadcasts of the 2011 Big East Championship on the ISP network.

The partnership between Volvo and the Big East will be managed by ISP Sports. Volvo media agencies of record MPG and Media Contacts, and social media agency Cake, all part of Havas Media, are handling traditional, digital and social media responsibilities for the campaign.

Being a “Big Blue” fan I enjoy reading all comments concerning Big Blue & The Big Red Cards. The enthusiasm by Steve in support of the Cards is a treat to read, and you’ve got to love and admire his approach to all U of L sporting events. Keep writing Steve, you reflect what college sports should be about.
