Old news by now but worth repeating: University of Louisville baseball coach Dan McDonnell is staying at U of L, having turned down an offer from Auburn University to take that job.

Mississippi State opted for John Cohen, the University of Kentucky coach who got the Wildcat fans excited about baseball but accomplished little in the post season while in Lexington.

No word on whether McDonnell was considered at Mississippi State, a rival of his while he was an assistant at the University of Mississippi before taking over at Louisville. An immediate success, McDonnell  took the Cards to the College World Series in his first season and on a return trip to the NCAA in his second year.

The Bulldogs may have made the best choice for them but they didn’t get the better coach. U of L has a baseball genius in Dan McDonnell.
