It’s important to remember that the University of Louisville baseball team has been here before, on the brink, confronted with potential frustration, the possibility of falling short, a return to obscurity.  They’re back one more time after completing the most successful regular season ever for a Louisville team with a record high 40 wins.

  • Lost the first three games of the season at Florida for a terrible start, dropped out of the top 10 but rebounded to win 16 of the next 19 games.
  • Dropped two games to Notre Dame in mid-April and fell to the middle on the conference pack,  but won 11 of their next 12 games to contend for the conference title.
  • Needed three wins in the final series against South Florida to capture U of L’s first regular season Big East Conference championship. Got them.
  • Lost to Notre Dame in the semifinals of the Big East Tournament but beat the Irish in the championship game.

The brink is back as Louisville faces Vanderbilt in the Regional Championship game. Familiar territory for this team.
