Cutting through the bureaucracies of a private company and a major university can be a challenge but here are the latest details of the Charlie Strong label, which will include a signing event on Aug. 1:

The cost per bottle is $49.99 for these limited edition numbered treasures.

Thursday — Members of the Marker’s Mark Ambassadors Club will receive official notification of the bottle that evening. (Call Maker’s Mark at 270 865-2881 to become an Ambassador.)

Friday — Bottles go on sale in the Louisville area, and they also will be available in Shelby, Meade, Bullitt, Hardin, Henry and Spencer counties. We were previously told by Maker’s Mark the bottle would be distributed the week of the 23rd, but that changed.

Tuesday, July 24 — Media event.

Thursday, July 26 — Tickets go on sale for the signing event through the U of L ticket office and web site. The tickets for the event are $1.

Wednesday, Aug. 1 — Signing event that evening at the Mellwood Art and Entertainment Center, 1816 Mellwood Avenue. Charlie Strong, Tom Jurich and Maker’s Mark executives Rob and Bill Samuels and Greg Davis will be on hand.

No time has been set yet. Must have a ticket to get bottles signed. There will be a limit but not yet decided (or made public).

A number of liquor stores are taking pre-orders on the limited edition bottles, including The Spirit Shoppe at Cox’s Smoker’s Outlet in Middletown (telephone 253-1387). A manager there told the observer there is great demand for the label, and he has ordered five cases of them (approximately 70 bottles). He said he has already reserved several bottles.
