Guess who won’t be the starting pitcher when the universities of Louisville and Kentucky square off at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium?

Not Jared Ruxer, the freshman who allowed UK only three hits in UofL’s 12-0 whitewashing of UK back on April 12. Total domination by the freshman righthander in Lexington.

Sorry, there won’t be a repeat performance, if that’s what anyone was counting on.

Seeking a three-game sweep of first-place South Florida, Coach Dan McDonnell promoted Ruxer to the weekend rotation.  Ruxer would hold USF scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when he would give up three runs. It was Ruxer’s first loss in six games.

With Justin Amlung and Jeff Thompson turning in wins the first two games in the USF seriess, looks like Travis Tingle (5-3) may get the UK challenge with his 4.27 earned run average. Anything goes.
