The date was Sept. 23, 1993, Howard Schnellenberger was in his eighth season at the University of Louisville, Bill Olson and Malcolm Chancey were looking high and low to meet a fundraising goal for a new football stadium.

UofL was still playing football in a baseball stadium, the long-time die hards still scratching their heads after three years of debate, wondering if a new one was remotely possible.

The Cardinals would register a landmark 41-10 over Texas, providing a powerful catalyst for those who dared dream of future greatness for Louisville football. Thanks to UpFromTheAshes on the Cardinal Authority message board for saving his VHS tape, converting it to digital and posting it to YouTube for posterity:

  1. I was there and it was GREAT!. Watching Sam Madison dominate on defense, and “the Pipe” on the sidelines puffing away. The crowd was awesome! The stadium was packed, and UL fans were given a glimpse of the future. What a day! Thanks for bringin back very fond memories.

I look forward to many new ones.

    GO CARDS!!!!!
