Pitino to name some assistants

Rick Pitino will announce some new members of the University of Louisville basketball coaching staff during a press conference at 12:30 Tuesday at the Yum Practice Center.

Reports indicate that Kevin Keatts and Wyking Jones will join the staff. Keatts is the head coach of Hargrave Military Academy and was an assistant coach during the Derby Festival Classic, Jones is an assistant at New Mexico and previously served as a travel team manager with Nike.

Richard Pitino, Jr., may also be introduced or he will join later. Only his dad knows for sure.

Let the buzz begin.

Why not give David Padgett the Assistant job?

JC, I have been an advocate of Dvid Padgett and if the assistant’s job were based on merit, David would be the ideal candidate. However, in today’s diverse and competitive environment, special recruiting skills and contacts are a must, enough so that Pitino is making it a top priority for his assistants. Until the NCAA clamps down on some of the unique approaches by schools like Kentucky, this is not likely to change.
