Paul Rogers on the mend

Paul Rogers

Paul Rogers, the University of Louisville play-by-play announcer, will be back in front of a Clear Channel microphone for the UofL-Pittsburgh football game Saturday.

Over the weekend, Rogers missed the broadcast of the UConn game, the first game he has missed since succeeding Van Vance as the voice of the Cardinals 19 years ago. He’s been doing sports at WHAS since 1973.

“I felt something coming on late Friday, and I spent Saturday and Sunday in bed,” he told Card Game. “I just felt like it was best thing to do. I’ll be back at my desk Tuesday, ready to go.”

Well, that’s a relief. The way WHAS and Clear Channel have operated in the past, you just never know what to think when they’re involved in something. Then there’s the Terry Meiners’ situation. Glad to hear Paul is okay, and looking forward to listening to him again. He’s about as good as they come, and we’re fortunate to have him.

Thanks for checking with Paul, Charlie. The rumor mills were all set to start churning again. Here’s to 19 more years for Paul. He’s the man we need behind the mike.
