new-hurdleThe kind of player every college football fan dreams about, but almost never happens, is playing quarterback at the University of Louisville.

Not a dream, not a figment of imagination. He’s real.

One yard short of becoming the first player to ever record 400 yards of passing and 200 yards rushing in a college football game. Winding up with 411 through the air and 199 on the ground.

With his team amassing an amazing 845 yards of total offense, leaving treadmarks on the back of the bewildered Syracuse defenders.

That was Lamar Jackson making it look easy, especially during the first three offensive series, scoring three times on five plays, in the University of Louisville’s 62-28 win at Syracuse.

The first play setting the tone, with Jackson hitting James Quick on a 72-yard touchdown play on the first play on offense, 16 seconds into the game .

Next, three plays to move 80 yards for next one, Jackson capping off the drive with a seven-yard run into the end zone..

Then taking a read-option 72 yards for six more points.

But then there was that play in the second quarter to put UofL up 35-7. One for the ages, that his fans will tell over and over and over, that nine-yard sweep around left end, Jackson launching himself high in the air over the defender.

The one that will be the last image of Lamar Jackson in the eyes of Louisville football fans. That is, until he makes an even more spectacular play as he almost assuredly will.

And don’t be at all surprised if Jackson becomes the first member of the 400-200 club in the not-too-distant future. Dream on.
