Mariya Moore would go in for a lay up, get the ball slapped away, roll around on the floor, come up with the ball, head for the basket again. It was that kind of game Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center, a game in which both teams turned the ball over 21 times apiece.

Mariya Moore finishes with 28 points.
Mariya Moore leads all scorers.

Moore, a tested freshman with the confidence of a veteran, would score 15 points in the first half and 13 in the second to lead her the University of Louisville women’s basketball team to a come-from-behind win over North Carolina, leading all scorers with 28 points.

After relinquishing an early lead, the Cardinals would trail by as many as 10 points in the first half. They would reclaim the lead, 63-62, on a free throw by Sherrone Vails with 4:11 in the game. They would never trail again in a 75-66 win over North Carolina before 13,115 fans at the KFC Yum! Center.

Myisha Hines-Allen, another freshman, would score 13 points while Sara Hammond and Shawnta Dyer were adding eight. The toughness of Emmonie Henderson was another key factor down the stretch as she added another eight points and six rebounds. Jude Schimmel added four ponts while making seven assists.

The win was the 22nd for the Cardinals against only three losses and they are tied with Duke and Florida State for second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
