Heart thumping, breath holding, mind-bending drama.

So this is why the world goes crazy over soccer.

Goalie Andre Boudreaux would block two penalty kicks following two overtimes to give the University of Louisville soccer team a 3-2 edge and a win over Providence Sunday

Making good on penalty kicks for UofL were Nick DeLeon, Dylan Mares, and Charlie Campbell.

The victory earned for UofL its first Big East tournament championship ever, along with an undefeated 17-0-2 record during the regular season.

UofL’s Colin Rolfe was down in pain for over four minutes after taking an elbow to his head during the 83rd minute in regulation.

Two minutes later, though, Rolfe at his best again, scoring a goal to give Louisville a 1-0 lead.

However, teammate Chase Rogers would be flagged for a penalty, giving Providence a free kick and allowing the Friars to tie the score 1-1 with less than two minutes to go, requiring the overtimes.

  1. kind of got screwed on a pk given and one not given, but who cares we still ended up on the right side.

  2. Can’t wait for the pairings to be announced. And thanks for keeping us to date on soccer. I’ve become a fan of the sport following this team.

  3. Such a dramatic event. Do those guys even take timeouts? Way to go UofL. We are incredibly proud of you.

  4. Proud to be a Cardinal fan! Proves that UofL is well rounded in all of its programs and doesn’t just focus on b-ball and football like one school down the road. So, this means that UofL is awesome in the “Beautiful Game” that is Soccer! Go Cards!
