Coach Charlie Strong is thinking ahead, like three seasons from now to the class of 2015.

The University of Louisville football coach has apparently offered a scholarship to Jurrell “Rat” Green, a 10th grade running back who finished his freshman season at Oviedo High in Orlando with 1,060 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns while averaging 7.6 yards per carry.

Strong obviously recognizes significant potential, knowing the 5-foot-7, 170-pound Green will have plenty of time to bulk up. Green is probably the first known high school sophomore to ever receive an offer from U of L so early.

His teammate, Jacques Patrick, also a sophomore running back, has already received offers from Florida, Florida State and Miami, as well as Auburn and Central Florida.

“Coach Strong just said he was impressed with my highlight tape,” Green told the Orlando Sentinel. “He was pretty straight forward and let me know everything. It gives me more confidence. I feel pretty good about myself but I can always get better on the field and off.”

Charlie Strong with Jurrell Green at U of L in 2015 would be a winning combination in more ways than one.

And, yes, they do make highlight videos for ninth graders in Florida:

  1. Well I can say it’s not that shocking or unthinkable to offer kids that young a scholarship. I’m from the Orlando area and Oviedo is big time program in the largest and most competitive high school classification in Florida. If you can start on their squad as a sophomore you are definitely a gamer because Oviedo is not the type program where young players start due to lack of talent. CS knows the area and knows the talent levels. He’s just trying to get a early start on these prospects before every other BCS school comes after them.

  2. Wasn’t paying any attention to the “music,” so typical of what some consider cool these days and I tuned it out as usual. Some day they will figure out that a less abrasive approach will make more of an impression on adults. But by then they will be totally confused adults.

  3. Impressive performance on video. Unfortunate choice of music (mf, n-word, kiss my ___, etc.)!

  4. Wow. If Charlie Strong is going to stick around and bring in recruits like that in 2015, we’re going to be in great shape!
