Summer is always an eternity for bloggers who follow college athletic programs.

Too much time to fill, lots of redundancy, trying to remain relevant, attempting to be creative, forever counting the days.

Some bloggers fill the space with recycled news releases, putting their own spin on it. Others come up with all-time great lists, re-countings of University of Louisville football players active in the National Football League, or highlight videos of individuals from previous seasons. new-acc-football-logo

A good time to pounce when a University of Kentucky coach or athletic official makes a misstep, like Mark Stoops in missing a traditional event. Or if the someone happen to be a UK blogger, throwing insults at UofL for playing rap music during weight lifting.

Fans are eager for news, bloggers are desperate, but most of the time it’s pretty scarce. You know it’s slow when Montrezl Harrell breaking another backboard is the biggest story of the week.

Preparations for the 2014 football season begin next week, with Bobby Petrino scheduling a news conference for Monday at 1:30. Practice begins Tuesday with the freshmen and transfers hitting the field at 8:30 a.m., the veterans at 4:20 p.m. Media Day is scheduled Saturday at 8:15 a.m.

Thank goodness for the ACC ceremonies, the soccer stadium construction and the demolition of the silos this summer.

UofL football can’t get here soon enough.

  1. Eric Crawford just had a birthday. He’s probably growing the beard to see how much grey it would show, and to figure out what to get to cover it up.

  2. I think even WDRB’s Eric Crawford is feeling your pain. He posted a picture of himself with the beginnings of a beard, saying he would have to shave soon! Go Cards!!!
