The University of Louisville and Ohio State have played 13 baseball games over the years, with UofL owning a 10-3 edge in the series. The Cardinals have won nine consecutive games over the Buckeyes in the past five seasons.

The latest UofL win was a 7-3 decision over the Buckeyes Wednesday at Jim Patterson Stadium, with six Louisville pitchers allowing only five hits and a total of eight base runners.

Jeff Gardner put the Cardinals in front to stay with his fifth home run, a two-run blast over the right field wall in the first inning. Cole Sturgeon had four hits in five at-bats, including a run-scoring double.

Sophomore lefthander Drew Harrington got credit for his first win, holding the Buckeyes scoreless through the first four innings in a game witnessed by 1,479 fans.Reliever Nick Burdi was tapped for a two-run home run in the ninth inning.

Ohio State hasn’t defeated a Louisville baseball team since 1992.
