Disappointing bus trip to Bowling Green for an 8-1 loss to Western Kentucky.

One knows things are going badly when the catcher picks off a Louisville runner who’s too far off of second base in the fifth inning. First time witnessing that stunt. Ever. In the same inning, Western Kentucky catcher Ryan Messex will pick off another runner, this time at first base. Another was picked off at third later.

The conclusion for some was that Messex had one hell of an arm. Dan McDonnell would have another after the game, indicating that the base running was pathetic.

The game deteriorated quickly after Chad Green left the mound after five innings, having yielded only one run and three hits. He appeared to be getting stronger but apparently his pitch count was up. His relievers, including loser Cody Ege, would proceed to give up nine more hits and seven runs.

WKU fans in the crowd of about 2,000 were lapping it up, of course, enjoying their moment of superiority over another humbled Louisville team.  An old story in an a rivalry that refuses to become one-sided.

McDonnell said he hoped the embarassing loss would motivate his team, which needs plenty of it after dropping two winnables in a row.

  1. In my point of view, baseball fans appear to be more laid back in America than in some other countries. In Korea, the fans are as energetic and entertaining as American football fans.
