If you watched the Lady Cards during the stretch drive this season, you were watching a preview of even better things to come in upcoming seasons. Sonja, our ace Lady Cards reporter, is on a big assignment so it falls on this observer to remind fans of the incredible talent that will be under Jeff Walz’ tutelage next year.

Yes, Angel McCoughtry, the best women’s basketball player many of us have ever seen in person, will be returning, along with Candyce Bingham, Chauntise Wright, Brandie Radde, Yuliva Tokova, Laura Terry, and my favorite, Deseree Bird. And as Sonja recently reported, Kala Faulkner, a very talented ballhandler, is considering a return as well.

The bonus, really the future, is a Top 10 recruiting class that includes:

Monique Reid — A 6-1 first-team Courier-Journal All-Stater from Fern Creek, who averaged 31. 6 points per game, 19.2 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 3.5 blocks. 5.7 assists 2.1 steals a game.

Gwen Rucker — A 6-2 first-team CJ All-Stater from Lexington Henry Clay, averaged 14.3 points, 10. 4 rebounds, and hit 54.5% from the field.

Janae Howard — A second-team CJ All-Stater from Owensboro who averaged 27.8 points and 9.8 rebounds.

  1. Well, you can see how close I follow the Lady Cards. I’m very glad to hear that.

BTW, Sonja does a tremendous job–great writing. Makes me want to read–even though, like i said, I don’t follow women’s sports much.

Careful, she may Pipp you! ; – )

  2. No serious discussion about Angel leaving. They held the WNBA draft this week and Angel did not enter her name.
