We could get used to this.

The University of Louisville women’s basketball team rolled past Southeastern Missouri State by 54 points Friday. Once again, the Lady Cards getting off to a blistering star, leading the Red Hawks 16-0 after five minutes.

A lot of good things going on out there, including a buzzer beating, 35-foot three pointer by LaToya Johnson at the end of the first half to put Louisville up 52-19.

  • Louisville shot a red hot 56.4% for the game. The dominance was overwhelming, with the Cards winning the points in the paint battle 46-9.
  • Another big effort for Louisville’s four freshmen. 30 points and 15 rebounds. Charmaine Tay did not dress for the game, sidelined with a severe cold.
  • Keisha Hines is a warrior: 15 points, 10 rebounds, 3-5 from the field and 9-11 from the foul line. After the game, she commented that she still hasn’t faced anyone as tough as red shirt teammate Cierra Warren, who “beats up all the post players” in practice.
  • Only 17 minutes for Shoni Schimmel but seeing her sitting on the bench cutting up with Sherrone Vails and teammates was priceless. She seems to be adjusting well to life in Louisville and thinks the Louisville fans are “awesome.”
  • Tia Gibbs returning to the form that earned her the MVP award in Kentucky high school hoops a few years ago: 13 points on 5-6 shooting and 3-3 from trifecta land. Four boards and steals as well.

The road gets tougher for Jeff Walz’s crew next week. Three straight on the road, beginning with a Tuesday visit to top 10 Xavier.
